Sept. 10th: Liz Longley & Seth Glier @ Driftwood Folk Cafe!

Well, that hurricane/tropical storm was lots of fun last weekend, wasn't it??? We hope that everyone came through it unscathed, and that your electricity has been restored!

Now that Labor Day weekend is quickly coming up on us, it's time for us to remind you that the 2011-2012 Driftwood Folk Cafe season is also starting soon! And what a show we have in store for you...

On September 10th, we are very happy to bring back Liz Longley and Seth Glier to share our stage and entertain all of us! You may recall that Liz was the opening act for Lori McKenna, and Seth was the opening act for Lucy Kaplansky. Since then, they have toured together and separately, and have been playing to sold out audiences at shows and festivals all over the country and beyond! Please visit their websites to reacquaint yourselves with their music, you'll not want to miss seeing them on the same stage!

Driftwood Folk Café Presents a Special Co-Bill Featuring Liz Longley and Seth Glier on September 10th

Driftwood Folk Café proudly presents a night of music with the incredible musical talents of Liz Longley and Seth Glier on Saturday, September 10th.

A recent Berklee College of Music graduate, Liz Longley is already showing signs of becoming the next acoustic breakout artist. In 2010, Liz received first prize in the BMI John Lennon Scholarship competition, grand prize in the International Acoustic Music Award contest (among 9,000 entries) as well as the Chris Austin Songwriting Award. She also appeared at the Newport and Rocky Mountain folk festivals. In 2009, Liz garnered first place in the Rocky Mountain Folk Fest Songwriter Showcase, and was co-winner of the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest, among several other honors.

Liz is highly regarded for her personal, emotionally engaging songwriting. John Mayer has called her music “gorgeous… just gorgeous” and the Washington Post has said “This voice won’t stay small (for) long.” Liz has opened for Shawn Colvin, Paula Cole, Nanci Griffith, Amos Lee, Colin Hay, Crowded House, Jesse Colin Young, Jonathan Edwards, Lori McKenna and Livingston Taylor. www.lizlongley.com

Despite his relatively young age Glier is a seasoned troubadour, traveling all over the United States and performing over 200 dates a year. In 2010 he opened for Edwin McCain and The Verve Pipe, appeared with his idol James Taylor and performed on main stages of the prestigious Falcon Ridge and Kerrville Folk Festivals, with rave reviews and a constantly-expanding fan base following him every step of the way. “I’m an ambassador,” Glier explains. “I travel from place to place carrying my songs and stories with me, and I want people to leave my show changed. Some people won’t remember the songs I sing, but they will remember how they felt while hearing them. That’s what I want to do – to remind people, including myself, why we’re here: to connect!”

Glier doesn’t just concern himself with connecting with paying audiences, either. Along the massive tour behind his MPress debut, “The Trouble With People,” Glier, an environmentalist and altruist used his music to make a difference wherever he could. His “green” CD release tour involved organizing tree planting parties in cities along the tour route (which he reached in his hybrid Toyota Prius); promoting carpools for fans to attend his shows; selling t-shirts made out of organic materials, and more. www.sethglier.com

Driftwood Folk Café is a volunteer-run, 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation. Shows are generally held on the 2nd Saturday of the month at Plymouth’s Unitarian Universalist First Parish Church, downstairs in Kendall Hall, at 19 Town Square in Plymouth MA.  Café-style seating as well as home-baked goods, a variety of tea, soft beverages, and, of course, delicious coffee help to ensure a tasty, intimate concert experience. In order to provide the highest quality listening atmosphere for all, this is an alcohol-free and non-smoking venue.  Children are always welcome with adult supervision, provided they are attentive and courteous. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Plymouth Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.  Tickets may be purchased for $17 in advance or $20 at 7:30 pm at the door the day of the show (if available).  Watch for upcoming shows with Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams as well as David Wilcox!
